Best Salt Lake County Cities for New Construction if You’re Relocating With a Family
For new construction in Salt Lake County, the realistic options are Daybreak in South Jordan, Herriman, West Jordan, and Riverton. Daybreak is probably the most developed and complete master-planned community in Utah – clubhouses, gyms, walking trails, lakes you can paddleboard on, basketball and pickleball courts, and a new TRAX light-rail station right in the community (Daybreak has TRAX, not FrontRunner). The trade-offs are cost, an HOA that runs a bit higher than other areas, and a smaller set of builders and available homes. West Jordan is less developed and less mature – new communities are going in alongside older homes, but with fewer amenities and less mature landscaping – and the Mountain View Corridor has made the west side of the city much more connected (roughly 20 minutes north-south to the Salt Lake airport, slower east-west to I-15 unless you are near I-215). Herriman has a large new-construction pipeline but no rail station – the line was not extended, so it is served by bus. Riverton is a nice mature area where you will more often find resale homes with larger lots, finished backyards, and finished basements, at higher prices; new construction there is thin.
