Is Utah County or Salt Lake County Better for New Construction?
Neither county is objectively better – it depends on the lifestyle you want. Salt Lake County has larger and fancier restaurants, entertainment, theater, and employment centers, quicker access to Salt Lake International Airport, and some areas with more mature surrounding development. It also carries a premium just for being in Salt Lake County – new single-family homes there list for meaningfully more than in Utah County, and, as of 2026, they are also taxed at a slightly higher effective rate. Utah County has far more new-construction to choose from and lower prices, with the biggest concentration on the west side in Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain. Salt Lake County new construction is concentrated in Herriman, South Jordan, and West Jordan. School districts on both sides are generally regarded as strong. If your commute anchor is downtown Salt Lake or the South Jordan area, it is worth pricing Salt Lake County against a comparable home in Saratoga Springs or Eagle Mountain and deciding whether the difference is worth it to you.
