Where Do Silicon Slopes Tech Workers Actually Live, and Why?
A large share of Silicon Slopes tech workers live in northern Utah County, and many commute from central Utah County as well. A lot of them are relocating from big out-of-state metros – San Jose, San Francisco, Houston – where commutes run multiple hours each way, so a 30 to 40 minute Utah drive feels great and they are comfortable living further from the office. Many Silicon Slopes executives end up on the east side of I-15 – Lehi, Highland, Alpine, American Fork – where the homes are larger and more estate-style than what you find in Saratoga Springs and west Lehi. Plenty of tech workers also live in Salt Lake County, but new moves coming into the area more often land in Utah County, drawn by the newer housing, lower prices on the west side, and the short commute relative to where they came from.
